FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Is it true that dance at Elevation is expensive?
A: Dance training is an investment, and we completely understand that cost can be a real concern for families. For reference, a 30-minute session at Elevation is about the same cost as at other local studios—plus the price of a venti Starbucks coffee. The difference is that at Elevation, that “coffee” is an investment in a nurturing environment that sets your dancer up for long-term success.—and we’re happy to treat you to one if you come chat with us about it!
That difference in cost reflects our commitment to quality over quantity:
- Small class sizes for more personalized attention
- Experienced faculty with professional training
- Curriculum-based progression designed for long-term growth
- Performance opportunities that build confidence and community
- Support for families including scholarships, multi-class discounts, and flexible payment plans
- Prime location for after school drop off RIGHT downtown Steamboat
So while our tuition may reflect our high standards, we strive to make sure your dancer receives real value—and a second home at the studio they can grow in. We work hard to make Elevation a place where every dollar goes toward real value for your dancer’s growth, confidence, and love of movement.
Q: Is it true Elevation is only for older, more seasoned dancers?
A: Not at all! Elevation offers classes for dancers of all ages and experience levels—from preschoolers discovering movement for the first time to high school dancers preparing for college and professional auditions.
This year, we’ve restructured our class categories to be even more inclusive. That means:
• No experience necessary at any age
• Purposeful class placement based on both age and ability
• Programs designed to support every stage of a dancer’s journey
We meet each dancer where they are and help them grow from there. Have questions about placement? Email us anytime—we’re here to help!
What do dancers ages 3–7 learn from starting their journey at Elevation?
At Elevation, our youngest dancers build more than just dance steps—they build a strong foundation for life!
In our classes for ages 3–7, dancers learn:
🌟 Body awareness & coordination – Through age-appropriate movement, dancers develop balance, strength, and control.
🎵 Musicality & rhythm – They learn to hear and respond to music, which supports both timing and expression.
🧠 Listening & focus – Following directions, waiting for their turn, and working in a group teaches essential classroom behavior.
🤝 Confidence & social skills – Dancers begin to build independence while also learning how to share space and work with peers.
💖 Creativity & self-expression – Imaginative movement helps children connect emotion to movement and tell stories through dance.
Most importantly, they learn that dance is fun and that they are capable, valued, and welcome in our studio community.
Starting early means giving your child the gift of movement, discipline, and joy that will support their dance journey—and so much more—for years to come.

Q: Is it true that my family cannot apply for financial assistance through Steamboat Dance Theatre (SDT) unless we are considered low income?
A: Not exactly. While SDT does follow an algorithm to determine award amounts, any family can and SHOULD apply. Financial assistance is awarded based on a variety of factors, and we encourage anyone with financial need to submit an application. We’re also happy to help guide you through the process.
Q: Why are dancers required to take ballet when enrolled in contemporary?
A: Ballet is the foundation of most dance forms. It builds the alignment, strength, control, and technique dancers need to safely and successfully train in contemporary. We require it to ensure our dancers progress confidently and avoid injury, while maintaining the integrity of their movement education.
